Humans of CDP #141: Brian ’27 & Kate ’27

Today’s #HumansofCDP are Brian Ryu '27 and Kate Ruelan '27. Check out what these two have to say about CDP and one another!

Why did you become a facilitator?

Brian:

What always excites me about dialogue sessions in CDP is how it challenges us to dig deeper into viewpoints and experiences that are truly personal to us, and seeing the enthusiasm with which students share these aspects of their identity affirms my commitment to this work. In being a facilitator, I hope to make people more aware of the value of openly communicating and embracing differences to building a more connected society

How has CDP impacted your life outside of Cornell?

Kate:

CDP has hugely impacted my life outside of Cornell. It has given me the tools and mindset to connect with people who I may have written off in the past, which has allowed me to form new and meaningful connections that bring so much happiness into my life. It hasn’t just changed the way I communicate with new people-it’s also helped me navigate and strengthen the relationships that matter most to me.

What do you admire about your co-facilitator?

Brian:

What I admire about Kate is the energy and commitment she brings to our work together. She is clearly passionate about what we do here and truly cares about each and every student, something that is evident not just during our class sessions, but in our preparation as well. I see that her dedication shines through for our students too and makes them more invested in the work we do in session as a result, which obviously makes session much more enjoyable!

Kate:

Something I admire about Brian is his dedication to the work that we do. Whenever he speaks about course content, his passion really shines through. The conviction he has about his pluralistic view of the world is truly inspiring.
