Today’s #HumansofCDP are Lauren Madrigal '25 and Icema Castle '27. Check out what these two have to say about CDP and one another!
What have you learned about human connection in CDP?
Lauren:
During my time as a facilitator, l’ve had the privilege of witnessing how human connection can transform perspectives. Through dialogue, I’ve gained invaluable insight into the power we hold-as members of communities, families, workplaces, and more-to share, learn, and grow together. Connecting across both similarities and differences has deepened my sense of responsibility to others and continues to remind me of the collective impact my peers and I can create.
How is EDUC 2610 different from other classes?
Icema:
EDUC 2610 is different from other classes because it truly allows one to explore themselves to the fullest, whether that be through their thoughts, beliefs, biases, etc. It allows for students to engage in dialogue with one another and encourages connection across difference. Unique and special bonds are built in class that enhance the learning process.

What is it like to work with your co-facilitator?
Lauren:
Working with Icema has been a joyful experience-full of laughter, genuine curiosity, and a shared commitment to doing meaningful work. Her big heart shines through everything she does, and her passion for social justice continually inspires and uplifts me. Her depth of knowledge and insight is rooted in a deep love of learning, and I feel incredibly lucky to learn from her-both academically and on a deeply human level. I cherish our time working together and am so grateful that CDP brought Icema into my life!
What makes your co-facilitator unique?
Icema:
My favorite thing about Lauren is being able to always laugh and have a good time when we get together. There is never an air of judgement and it truly makes the time we spend together enjoyable. This allows us to bring a judgement-free energy to session, while we facilitate.
