Humans of CDP #153: Grace ’27 and Kumba ’28

Our next #HumansOfCDP are Grace Mackrell ‘27 and Kumba Cavazzini Diop ‘28! See what these two are saying about CDP and each other!

Why did you become a facilitator?

Kumba:

I became a facilitator because I deeply resonated with CDP’s mission to foster unity across differences and strengthen community on campus. Creating spaces where students can engage in open, democratic dialogue feels essential to building understanding and empathy. As a facilitator, I hope to help others navigate difficult conversations with honesty, respect, and a shared commitment to growth.

Why do you keep facilitating?

Grace:

I keep facilitating each semester because of the amazing community at CDP! From the teaching team to my fellow facilitators to the students, there is always something new to learn and gain perspective from. Being part of this environment motivates me to grow both personally and professionally. Facilitating also gives me a meaningful way to give back, helping shape experiences that inspire growth and positive change for others. Knowing that I can contribute to someone else’s learning journey makes the role deeply rewarding and impactful.

What is it like to work with your co-facilitator?

Kumba:

Working with Grace has been an eye-opening and rewarding experience. I’ve learned a lot about myself through our co-facilitation, especially the importance of being flexible and open to changes in our plans. Her thoughtful approach pushes me to grow as a facilitator and to adapt in ways that make our class conversations more engaging and inclusive.

What do you admire about your co-facilitator?

Grace:

Kumba is an amazing co-facilitator! I admire her ability to connect with all students, making everyone feel seen and valued. Her passion and commitment to CDP are apparent in everything she does. I am constantly inspired by her creativity and dedication to fostering a positive learning environment. Working alongside her pushes me to be a better facilitator and mentor. I am so glad CDP brought us together!
