Humans of CDP #139: Nic ’26 & Joselyn ’25

Today’s #HumansofCDP are Nic Oke '26 and Joselyn Auquilla '25. Check out what these two have to say about CDP and one another!

How is EDUC 2610 different from other classes?

Nic:

At CDP, we engage in a unique learning model called “co-learning.” Rather than just teaching students content we regard students as both teachers and learners, empowering them to bring in their own prior knowledge, perspectives, and lived experiences to inform dialogues in class. Also, we don’t just learn theories or abstract concepts. Instead, we actively use these theories to understand our own upbringings and examine current events happening all around us.

Why do you keep facilitating?

Joselyn:

Co-leading conversations that encourage students to reflect and explore new perspectives is what keeps me coming back to facilitate each semester. This work is incredibly rewarding, especially when students are eager to engage with course concepts. Being able to see students learn to critically examine their social identities, recognize the agency they hold, and enhancing dialogue skills solidifies the importance of this work and my want to continue doing such work.

What do you admire about your co-facilitator?

Nic:

I admire how my co-facilitator guides class discussions and activities in a confident and self-assured manner, but also how she makes students feel very comfortable in her presence and gives them space to be vulnerable with her. I have learned a lot about how to handle my own facilitation style through working alongside her.

Joselyn:

Nic’s genuine enthusiasm for the course shines through every time he facilitates! I admire his strive to challenge our students to move beyond surface-level thinking and instead engage critically with the content. His passion for supporting the growth and development of our class is clear, and ‘m grateful to have him as my co-facilitator!
