Our next #HumansOfCDP are Icema Castle ‘27 and Sofia Peréz ‘28! Come see what they have to say about facilitating and each other!
How is EDUC 2610 different from other classes?
Icema:
EDUC 2610 is different from other classes because it allows me to examine my contribution to larger systems of inequity. This step allows for me to continue in my day-to-day more intentionally because I have had this time of self reflection. It has also taught me the skills to make meaningful connections.
What have you learned about human connection in CDP?
Sofia:
I’ve learned that there’s potential for human connection everywhere I go. Whereas I once felt uncomfortable entering new spaces with no one I knew, my mindset has since shifted to knowing there is a new friend awaiting in a room full of strangers. I have CDP to thank for motivating and teaching me to leave my comfort zone and connect with people I might not have had the chance to otherwise, and I’m forever grateful!
What do you admire about your co-facilitator?
Icema:
I admire how Sofia is so thoughtful with the group and is able to pick up on their needs and address them. She really cares and is super diligent in preparing her lesson and leading the class. She is able to pick up on social cues and adapt accordingly.
What is it like to work with your co-facilitator?
Sofia:
Working with Icema is such a joy, and I have learned so much from her. She is an amazing collaborator who is always willing to help me workshop my ideas and encourages me every week to show up as my best for our students. Seeing Icema lead with such grace has had such a positive effect on me, and I see her role as vital to the continued productivity of our class. She is a friend and a co-worker all in one and I feel incredibly lucky to have her as my first co-facilitator!
