Freedom of Expression: Fostering Curiosity through Dialogue in the Classroom is an interactive event marking the commencement of the inaugural theme year The Indispensable Condition: Freedom of Expression at Cornell.
The Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, and the Center for Dialogue & Pluralism are collaborating to provide this opportunity focusing on freedom of expression and dialogue in the classroom for Cornell instructors and academic leadership.
The goals of this event are to:
- Connect with fellow academic professionals interested in fostering dialogue and freedom of expression in the classroom
- Reflect with colleagues on hopes and fears related to dialogue and freedom of expression in the classroom
- Examine the importance of dialogue and freedom of expression in the classroom, as well as the challenges associated with creating environments that invite such communication
- Explore frameworks and practices that can foster curiosity through dialogue
This event will include breakfast, remarks from the Provost, a brief presentation about approaches to dialogic communication, a small panel of faculty sharing their own perspectives on the topic, and opportunities for attendees to have guided small group conversations.
