Our next #HumansofCDP are Mikayla Gutierrez '26 and Dylan Wang '27!
How is EDUC 2610 different from other classes?
Mikayla:
EDUC 2610 provides an opportunity for diverse groups of students to meaningfully connect with one another. Other courses don’t necessarily inhibit connection, but the way this course and its curriculum is structured encourages students to thoughtfully engage with one another as we reflect on ourselves and the world around us. Experiencing that genuine connection as a student was highly impactful. AS a facilitator, seeing those connections blossom between my students is a joy.
What is one recent high moment in your EDUC 2610 classroom?
Dylan:
One recent high moment in my EDUC 2610 experience is the bonding that has developed over the past few sessions. When students come in with ice-breaker ideas, share parts of their lives, and begin forming friendships with one another, it reminds me of the power this class has to create genuine connections. Students who might never have interacted outside of this space are becoming friends despite their differences, which highlights the meaningful impact of dialogue and shared experiences
What do you admire about your co-facilitator?
Mikayla:
Dylan is a very kind person and connects with everyone around him! He engages very well with our students and enjoys learning more about them, He’s also committed to thoughtfully connecting with me in and outside of work and developing our co-flow. Seeing that care lets me know that he was definitely a great pick for this position.
What is it like to work with your co-facilitator?
Dylan:
There is so much I can learn from my co-facilitator. Every time I talk to her, I learn something new about her and her hobbies. I admire her uniqueness and kindness. At first, I did not think we would have many similarities, but with every interaction, I continue to notice commonalities despite our differences. Moreover, she makes an effort to understand me as a person and consistently models hard work. Seeing her dedication motivates me to try harder and put more effort into the class.
