Humans of CDP #160: Icema ’27 and Marisa ’27

Our next #HumansofCDP are Icema Castle '27 and Marisa Aratingi '27!

How is EDUC 2610 different from other classes?

Icema:

EDUC 2610 is different because of the intentionality required to engage in the classroom. While the class is largely dialogue, there are frameworks and agreements we use to help us facilitate different connections and examine different aspects of society. I love having the opportunity to get to know my students in such a unique way and learn with them.

Marisa:

EDUC 2610 stands because it creates space to engage meaningfully with people at Cornell whom you likely never would have met otherwise, bringing together students with very different backgrounds and perspectives. The course features real and important topics about identity, inequality, and society, encouraging honest dialogue and reflection about issues that shape our world. What makes it especially powerful is that much of this learning happens through each another!

What is it like to work with your co-facilitator?

Icema:

I really like working with Marisa, as we always make sure to check-in with one another on all the different aspects of our work. We support each other and I appreciate the attention of detail Marisa has. Marisa brings creativity and new energy to facilitation which I really appreciate.

What do you admire about your co-facilitator?

Marisa:

Working with Icema has been a blast! I have learned so much from her and she is an incredible collaborator who is always willing to workshop ideas with me and consistently encourages me to think in new ways to be the best I can be. Watching her lead with such grace and thoughtfulness has had a meaningful impact on me, and I feel incredibly lucky that we have gotten the chance to get closer and build our friendship outside CDP as well!
